Save the North Star Grand Prix!
When I moved to Minnesota in 2016, one of the things that I was most excited about was the North Star Grand Prix. This was long before creating www.ACyclistInAStrangeLand.com to tell the stories of the American peloton, I was just a fan thrilled to be near all of the action. The up-close experiences and vivid memories that the North Star Grand Prix delivered helped inspire me to create my cycling website and share some of my joy with the world.
Sadly, the last year has been a roller coaster of emotions for North Star. The 2018 edition of the race was cancelled because of road construction that started a few weeks earlier than it ever should have. The race fought back hard from this challenge and secured UCI classification for the women's race to attract even more international riders to compete against what is already one of the strongest fields in North America.
The North Star Grand Prix has one more hurdle to overcome for a successful return. The race still needs to raise $200,000 to be fully funded. Please consider donating even a little to their GoFundMe campaign. If you're not able to do that, please share your own North Star Grand Prix stories, encourage others to donate, and help get the race in front of potential sponsors.
